myairops are proud to introduce, not one, but two, industrial placement students on a year-long course. They are joining us amidst their studies at university to help gain some vital industry knowledge, work related, experience.

Industrial placements are structured programs where a student spends an entire academic year working for a company as a full-time employee, before returning to university to complete their degree.

We aim to provide them with the relevant skills and technical knowledge that will enable them to successfully accomplish all their desires in technology and software in addition to building and developing expertise in the ever-growing aviation industry. They will be paired with a senior member of staff to act as their mentor and provide guidance and clarity where necessary.

Currently, they are working on a project that will incorporate fuel pricing into our system that allows consumers to have little to no human interaction. This consists of taking multiple fuel files from our inboxes and inputting them into the myairops flight product automatically via software, reducing the need for human intervention, ultimately reducing the risk of error.

Keep an eye on this space as we look to follow their journey with us at myairops and we are excited to have them on board.

Enough from us, let’s hear from them directly as they introduce themselves to the business.

Introducing our Industrial Placement employee…. Shannon

Q: What is your reasoning for coming to work at myairops?

A: Prior to my interview, a few members of the myairops team held an online presentation about myairops which revealed an unquestionable customer focused spirit. This resonated with me because I am passionate about user centered development, being a former nursing student and learning in depth about user centered care. The office location was a considerable bonus too, having a view of Farnborough airport runway from the staff canteen. The company also offered hybrid working, which saves using additional petrol.

Q: What has driven you pursue a career in tech?

A: I have always been fascinated with technology, wanting to know how it all works; especially software. I enjoy working in teams and collaborating with others. I also relish problem solving and feel delighted when I solve challenging problems. Therefore, a tech career is the perfect fit for me.

Q: What are you hoping to achieve from your placement?

A: I hope to further develop my skills and knowledge about tech development and the aviation industry. I also would like to apply the skills and knowledge that university has taught me.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in your placement?

A: I am most looking forward to discovering new technologies and trying out new tools. I am also looking forward to meeting new people.

Now that we have heard from one of our industrial placements, it’s time to introduce you to our other industrial placement.

Q: What is your reasoning for coming to work at myairops?

A: My reason to work at myairops was that there would be a lot of new skills to learn throughout my time here and a chance to put into practice what I’ve learned throughout Uni. Also, I have an interest in aviation so I thought it would be fitting if I got the opportunity to work here for my placement.

Q: What has driven you pursue a career in tech?

A: There isn’t a specific reason I have, the only reason I can think of is because I enjoyed the feeling of when I wrote and ran my first program during A-levels and from there, I just got more into it, and here I am.

Q: What are you hoping to achieve from your placement?

A: From this placement, there is of course the learning aspect. I want to see how the practices I’ve learned are applied in the real world and see how teams function during sprints. Additionally, to improve and further develop my skills. From the social perspective, I want to build a connection with people throughout the team, that could be through LinkedIn or other ways.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in your placement?

A: What I am most looking forward to would be learning how a full cycle for development is structured and ran, and seeing how different teams interact with each other. Also, helping in completing potential projects/leading in a project assigned to us is appealing to me

We are excited to introduce to the aviation industry these two talented individuals and we will be documenting their journey with myairops over the course of the year, so stay tuned!
